Janet S. Byrne was a curator in the Department of Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. During her 47-year career at the Museum, she developed a picture file of bookbindings and their descriptions that was rediscovered in the fall of 1993 when the Department of Drawings and Prints was preparing a survey of British illustrated books.
